It was my dad’s 60th birthday party, so we wanted to do something truly epic. It also happened to be the first time in literally a year that we were allowed to socialize again, as the Covid restrictions were all lifted and everyone was vaccinated. This was my first party after Covid imposed hiatus, so it had to be good.
The invite list for this one was fun because it was the first of the multigenerational parties that our Martin family has become known for. There were about 100 guests, the majority were boomer friends & colleagues of my parents. But a huge chunk of guests were also the millenial & gen-Z friends of us adult kids. The cohesive factor in the guest list was that they knew one of the Martin family members well enough to be invited.
For this party we were working backwards from the fact that my dad said he’d like to perform with his band. He is actually in multiple bands, so we decided to create a whole music festival to give them all a chance to perform. The name “Woodviewstock” is a play on Woodstock, and “Woodview” which is the name of a street in West Vancouver. Once we had the Woodstock aesthetic to jump off-of, everything came together super easily.
The dress code was “wear what you would wear to a music festival”. Based on the age range of attendees, we got an eclectic range of outfits from hippies to ravers.
