Press conference today for an exciting project I've been working on - preparing the indigenous led 2030 Vancouver Winter Olympic Bid! I've worked on some pretty big events, but wow - working with the Canadian Olympic Committee is next level.
The olympics are near and dear to my heart because I grew up with them. My dad, David Martin, was the advertising creative director for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic & Paralympic games. It's no exaggeration to say I grew up with every dinner table conversation for 8 years including some story from my dad about what he did that day for the bid, games, and or legacy projects.
For 2030, the four host first nations from the 2010 games were interested in an indigenous led games bid. They got the old band back together, bringing in a lot of the 2010 team as consultants at the beginning as they explored the feasibility and local interest in bidding for the games.
We had a lot of the familiar faces of the Canadian Olympic Committee, first nations leaders, Mayor of Vancouver, Mayor of Whistler, and all the usual suspects for major sporting events. I was at the press conference shooting imagery - these major bids we always try to capture as much behind the scenes media as possible from every single step along the way. There is always a huge amount of use for that footage later for press releases, montages, websites, and commemorative materials.
Whether the city does or does not vote to pursue the bid is going to be out of our hands, but it has been very cool to be apart of the inner circle on the Olympics.
Here are a few articles about it in the news today:
