Nicaragua’s Famous Sunday Funday Bar Crawl

Can confirm that Nicaragua's famous “Sunday Funday” bar crawl is absolutely worth planning your trip around.

Chances are if you know anybody who has visited Nicaragua, they would have either attended ,or considered attending, this weekly event in the surfing town of San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua. I’ve done more bar crawls than I can count so I’m speaking from experience when I say that this one is definitely worth attending.

We were strongly cautioned about taking preventative measures against pickpockets. It was a “stick the debit card in the bra” kind of an event (girls understand). My group didn’t have anything stolen - couldn’t tell you whether that’s because our preventative measures worked, or if the threat wasn’t as bad as we were led to believe.

There is an admission fee for the crawl, which you pay at the first stop. You’ll get a wristband as well as the official Sunday fun day bark crawl tank top which you see me wearing in the photo here. I’m a sucker for some branded party merch - I think these tank tops are awesome and I continue to wear mine even back in Toronto. Girl math tells me that the bar crawl was free because my Sunday fun day shirt replaces the need to buy a souvenir.

Several of the stops have pools, so wearing a swimsuit was a smart strategic call. I always recommend putting your phone in a Ziploc bag if you are going to bring one to pool parties.

I think the organizers of this event did a really great job. Great music at each stop. Great choice of venues. Great merch design. Great transportation logistics between venues (a huge breaking point for many events I’ve reviewed). If you’re in the area, this is definitely a party that I would recommend attending.
